Narrative
He was a World War I veteran, a wireless (radio) operator in the U.S. Navy.
While working as a wireless (radio) operator, he was killed aboard the Lykes Brothers’ ship ‘Brave Couer’ off the coast of Oporto, Portugal, along with the ship’s captain and others, by one of the ship’s mates, who “ran amok”.
A patent application filed prior to his last trip at sea was granted after his death.
He was never married, is buried in Charleston, S.C., in K.K.B.E. cemetery, next to Solomon Schatz.
